First game this year that it looked like the Flames had a starter in net. I hope Berra can keep it up.

yep
peppered with 44 shots...and we had an insane amount of blocks (Russell had 7 which was the total amount that the Hawks had LOL)
kinda nice to be outshot so badly and still come out with the win!

Really nice to see Berra have such a good game. I've been most excited by the play of Russell. He has looked great, the JBouw trade is looking pretty good as of right now.

Hey Colin! Better get on the Berra train for your next bet with Iggysbff. I would bet he gets more starts with Flames in November than Joey Mcbackup.

So what do you think? Is Backlund going to get moved? I would rather get a huge return from the Leafs & give them their Corsi savior then have him labour with the Legion of Doom line.

I dont know to be honest...not sure that the Leafs are going to look for a big trade in terms of centermen given that once everyone's healthy they will have a logjam...but theyll need to do something.

In terms of the Flames, I dont think they've "given" up on Backlund, but hes not winning the coaches trust right now, that's for sure. Still plenty of hockey left though, so I wouldnt go so far as to say that they are already looking to move him...especially when his value would be low right now.

Berra (he's a keeper) and your entire team played a great sixty minute game last night. 42 saves and 26 blocked shots. Great team win. Good to see nice things happening for you guys after so many not so good years.

Seeing the Flames win in your building must be like seeing a Unicorn.

It's nice that we can break some slumps now that the "old guard" has moved on.

Berra looks really technical and positional, hope he works out.

Yup he looked great but look at where they shot from, our guys did a great job keeping them to the outside and away from the crease. Everyone needs to not expect a lot yet...

Ya, but MacD, and Ramo would have (have done so) let one or two of those bad angel shot in . . . Hartley's system is to allow outside shots but he needs a goalie to stop these low risk shots.

Lets not expect too much out of Smokey the Berra until he proves to be consistent!

Hartley still trusts him defensively, with stajan in the box he was the go to guy on the 5 on 3 (and did quite well). I don't think Hartley has given him a chance to succeed offensively. His game doesn't play well with the bruisers. I think thats a roll thats better suited to Stajan's kit (did you see Stajan's pass to Jackman? best chance he's had all year). I wouldn't be opposed to deploying Stajan mostly for defensive faceoffs with his current line and time with the 4th line and giving Backlund a chance with wingers he can utilize.

haha exactly...but it's nice to have it go our way for once
if we were being outshot and outplayed EVERY game (or like 13 games straight) I would have concerns... we're in a rebuild and would rather lose games and keep drafting high than getting lucky wins that we shouldn't be winning

Are those good scoring chances or all shots?
cause those numbers are off...where are the shots in the high 30's or 40's for the Hawks?

I hear on Oiler sites the pitch forks & torches are out. If I were Kevin Lowe, I would be going underground.

I don't think it's a lack of confidence in Backlund. He's still the top penalty killing forward on the team, afterall... I think it's just a problem of him seemingly not having any offensive chemistry with anyone on the team.

That being said, Colborne doesn't seem to be clicking quite so well with Cammy and Gally anymore either. Maybe it's time for another shuffle?

Not to be a downer but....

Ramo played great against Washington....then struggled the next night.
Berra hasn't played great in the A this year.

He's a big kid with upside but I think you'll see a lot of ups and down with him this year....similar to Ramo.
